PRINCE2 is the world’s most popular project management methodology. By 2019, more than 1.8 million people worldwide have obtained PRINCE2 certification.
You can gain PRINCE2 certification in Japan at 2 levels:
PRINCE2 Foundation certification
You can obtain your PRINCE2 Foundation certification in Japan by taking any of the following PRINCE2 training methods:
- Attend a 2-day classroom Foundation PRINCE2 training course in Tokyo; Or,
- Study using our online Foundation PRINCE2 course.
Each of these training options come with a PRINCE2 Foundation exam. The syllabus for each study option is the same because the courses are accredited by PEOPLECERT. All our accredited PRINCE2 training courses must comply with the syllabus which is written by AXELOS, the owners of PRINCE2.
Who is this for?
PRINCE2 Foundation certification is ideal if you want to learn about PRINCE2. Certification at Foundation-level is great if you already hold one of the PMI qualifications (CAPM or PMP) because attending a classroom course or studying online counts as PDUs for your ongoing PMI accreditation.
A PRINCE2 Foundation course is also ideal if you’re new to project management and/or PRINCE2 and if you work on or would like to begin working on projects.

All of our PRINCE2 Foundation training courses come with a 1-hour PRINCE2 Foundation exam. For students taking our Foundation PRINCE2 courses the pass rate for this exam is 99%. You’ll get your results straightaway after the exam.
Passing the PRINCE2 Foundation exam is a pre-requisite for obtaining the higher-level Practitioner certification.
PRINCE2 Practitioner certification
Practitioner is the highest certification in PRINCE2.
You can obtain your PRINCE2 Practitioner certification by any of the following PRINCE2 training options. If you already have your PRINCE2 Foundation certification:
- Attend a 2 day classroom weekday Practitioner PRINCE2 training course in Tokyo; Or,
- Study using our online Practitioner PRINCE2 course.
Or, if you haven’t already obtained your PRINCE2 certification at Foundation level, one of the following 2 PRINCE2 training options is suitable:
- Attend a 4 day Foundation & Practitioner PRINCE2 training course in Tokyo; Or,
- Study using our online Foundation & Practitioner PRINCE2 course.
All the accredited courses above come with the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam and the syllabus for each study option is the same.
An alternative route to gaining PRINCE2 Practitioner certification is applicable for students who have completed the PMI-PMP, PMI-CAPM, or one of the IPMA Levels A, B, C or D. Proof of passing any of these qualifications will be required in the form of a certificate.

Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner status
After passing your PRINCE2 Practitioner exam, you’ll be able to call yourself a registered PRINCE2 Practitioner. This status lasts for 3 years. It means you can add this title onto your CV and business card. After 3 years you cannot continue to do this.
After 3 years, if you want to continue to call yourself a Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner, you need to pass a further PRINCE2 Practitioner exam. By passing the exam, you may call yourself a Registered PRINCE2 Practitioner for a further 3 years.

Is there homework?
You can expect to spend about 2-3 hours completing homework during each evening on our Tokyo PRINCE2 courses. The homework consists of revision and practising sample exams. Sometimes students opt to spend more time this.
What is the pre-course reading?
You’ll be asked to study the pre-course material consisting of a few short lessons available via our online portal. It will take you between 3-4 hours to read this before coming to the course.
When do I get the official manual?
For the PRINCE2 courses which include a manual, you’ll be given a copy on the first morning of the course along with all other course materials you need.
I use a wheelchair. Can I get access to an exam venue?
This depends upon the venue. Please call us to check whether wheelchair access is provided.
How long does it take to get my exam results?
Your trainer will mark your PRINCE2 Foundation exam paper during the course and will usually give you your score within half an hour of the end of the exam. For the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam, your paper will be electronically scanned for same-day results.
I have trouble writing for long periods due to a medical condition. What can I do?
Talk to us beforehand about any existing medical condition which you may have. We can contact the accreditation body to ask their advice on whether extra time can be given in the exam. For example, if you are dyslexic and have a certificate from a doctor, extra exam time can be given. It’s always best to discuss this with us before you book your course.
Can you deliver this course onsite at my company's premises?

Do courses include PRINCE2 exams?
PRINCE2 Foundation courses come with the one-hour Foundation exam which is taken on the 2nd day of the course.
The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam is a 2.5 hour exam which is taken on the last day of either a Practitioner course, or a combined Foundation & Practitioner course.
When do I get my certificate?
If you pass the PRINCE2 exams your certificate will be normally be available for download about 3 working days from the date of your exam.
Are there any prerequisites for the courses?
For the PRINCE2 Foundation course there are no prerequisites. If you want to sit the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam, then you must have already passed the Foundation exam.
How long does the PRINCE2 qualification last?
PRINCE2 exam certificates never expire. However, you are only able to call yourself a registered PRINCE2 Practitioner for 5 years after taking (and passing) the Practitioner exam. After that period, if you want to continue to call yourself a registered PRINCE2 Practitioner, then you must sit another PRINCE2 Practitioner examination.
Will this qualification help me to get a job?
Many international businesses are seeking candidates with PRINCE2 certification. In Japan, PRINCE2 certification is especially useful if you want to work for UK or European businesses. It is also useful in the NGO sector because it is used extensively by the United Nations.
Are there any example exam questions?
Yes – as part of your pre-course study and homework you will be given access to 3 full sample Foundation and 2 full sample Practitioner exam papers.
How well known is the PRINCE2 project management methodology?
PRINCE2 is the world’s most popular project management methodology. It is very complementary to the project management standard embodied within the PMI’s PMP certification and The PMBoK Guide.
PRINCE2 is used extensively by major corporations, government and the NGO sector. It is used on development projects by the United Nations.
In Japan, PRINCE2 is less well-known than the American-based project management standard contained within the Project Management Institute’s PMBok Guide. However, for professionals working in Japan for UK-based or EU-based employers, PRINCE2 is very useful.
If you are already accredited with one of the PMI credentials (such as PMP or CAPM), then taking a PRINCE2 course in Japan will contribute to your PMI PDUs.
What's the difference between the Foundation and Practitioner examinations?
PRINCE2 Foundation exam - lasts for 1 hour, 60 multiple-choice questions. Closed book. Tests candidates’ knowledge of the terminology and concepts PRINCE2.
PRINCE2 Practitioner exam - lasts for 2.5 hours, 68 multiple-choice questions. Open book. Tests candidates’ ability to apply PRINCE2 to a simple project scenario.
How many people have taken examinations?
In total, more than 1.6 million PRINCE2 examinations have been taken worldwide since 1996.
Are the exams difficult?
The Foundation exam is more straightforward than the Practitioner exam. The latter requires you to understand the methodology, and to apply it to a specific project scenario.
Thorough exam preparation is a crucial part of all our PRINCE2 training. Of the people who attend our courses, 99% pass the Foundation exam and around 83% pass the Practitioner exam.
